Katherine Kalagher-Ryan

Library Board

Our library provides more than just access to books-it also provides internet access, serves as a meeting place for town organizations and councils, and hosts free programs for adults and children. As a writing instructor, I fully understand how vital libraries are to the communities they serve, and have many ideas on how we can improve our library. Some of my ideas include securing adequate funding for library resources and programs; ensuring that the facilities are maintained and accessible to patrons of all ages; and aiding in the development of new continuing educational opportunities for the com-munity at large. In the current political and economic climate, where libraries are at risk of losing state funding for such essential services as internet access, I will work actively towards ensuring our library does all it can to continue providing such necessary services to Willington residents. Thank you.

Prof. Kalagher-Ryan admits a passion for literacy, and says, “Being literate opens new doors, creates new opportunities and increases an individual’s access to educational and vocational opportunities. Public libraries play a vital role in our nation, providing so much more than just books. On the Board, I will apply my passion to our town’s greatest literary resource.” Katie and husband Patrick Ryan adore their three children.
