WORKING FOR WILLINGTON
Since 1995
Who We Are
A Sentinel Party is a Willington political party dedicated to Willington issues. It was formed in 1995 by a group of Republicans, Democrats and unaffiliated voters who wanted more for Willington than just "business as usual". It is a party with a mission, with ideas, with goals, and with people dedicated to achieving them. Members have one common characteristic: good, honest people willing to give up a few evenings of their time to try to do the best they can for the community. This is public service as it was intended.
The philosophy of A Sentinel Party is simple: fiscal responsibility and accountability, active citizen involvement, open government, and constant improvement. We believe in the democratic process in which the townspeople and the taxpayers are the legislative body of this town. We believe that teamwork and communication between town boards, board members and the townspeople are necessary ingredients of a successful government. We believe that an active, informed citizenry must be involved with the governing process to ensure an honest and effective government. We recognize that local taxes are a necessary burden and public officials have a responsibility to control them. We believe that town officials are public servants. Finally, we believe in Willington, because we are your neighbors, your friends, your co-workers, your elected officials and WE ARE WORKING FOR WILLINGTON.
Our Mission
Our mission is to offer credible and accountable officials who will show leadership and possess distinct moral and ethical standards rooted in the democratic process. We will provide teamwork and communication between town boards, board members, and townspeople to establish responsible, common-sense government.
What we believe in:
•Our town is and should be a healthy, vibrant community.
•Local government should solve local problems.
•People in government need to communicate with their boards, with other boards, and with the residents.
•Finding the best possible information on all alternatives regarding local issues, including environmentally responsible solutions.
•Education is and should be a local matter and educators must be accountable.
•Public finances are a public trust, we are penny-wise without being pound-foolish.
•Government should treat everyone with dignity and respect and municipal workers and elected officials should be able to expect the same treatment in return.
•True long-range financial planning and budgeting for capital investments and improvements.
•Fair land use regulations, designed for our town and decided by our taxpayers.
•Recreational opportunities for our residents.
•It takes hard work to achieve things worth having.
•Doing good things—every day.
• We believe in Willington, because we are your neighbors, your friends, your co-workers, your elected officials and we are...WORKING FOR WILLINGTON
